Millennials known also as Generation Y, this demographic has their own unique set of traits and beliefs that are now shaping how they design their homes. For the color palette they tend to choose dark, predominately natural shades or all white with a splash of color, also millennials love built-in organization systems for everything from utensils, pots, and pans to spices and condiments. In the era of speed, millennials like to get everything fast and easy access like sensors, voice control, and smart appliances they want everything at the touch of a button. They prefer simplicity in their lives and lead a minimalist lifestyle, with few collectibles, and abhor clutter. Not only do kitchen designs need to be open to living spaces to allow for an easy flow when entertaining, but they also need to serve multiple uses for millennials – from cooking and crafts to coding and cocktails. According to millennials, the kitchen island is valued by them with all the activities taking place in their kitchen. While designing a kitchen for millennials we should take into consideration installing hidden electrical outlets with incorporating something useful on the end cap - open shelving for cookbooks or attractive display items, glass cabinet doors with ambient interior lining, a wine cooler, etc. For kitchen lighting, millennials care about the environment, so they prefer to install LED lighting which has a long life span and it is environmentally friendly. When it comes to the cabinets a straight and simple design that hides clutter is a favorite among millennials. Appliances and storage closets that are able to be tucked into walls that leave a clean traffic pattern are appreciated. This look creates one of speed and ease which are important components in this generation. These cabinets are void of carvings or ornamental designs, leaving sleek-looking lines. The movement for scaling back on size are millennials trends that are found in many areas.
